The Bealach na Ba
The Local Area

The village is an ideal base for walks in the nearby Rassal Ashwood and surrounding hills where Buzzards and Roe Deer are seen. The small off-shore islands are the homes of seals and many birds, including herons and the Sea Eagle. Achintraid is one mile off the main road, has a small hotel, village shop and Post Office, and a popular sea-food bar which specialises in fresh, locally caught shell-fish.

The mountain pass which rises to over 2000 feet is a popular trip among spectacular scenery. The small Applecross Hotel boasts several awards including AA Best Seafood Pub in Scotland.

Nearby Lochcarron has two hotels, a SPAR supermarket, a Heritage Centre, Golf course and tartan weavers. The Attadale Gardens and Cam Allt restaurant and Pottery are a short drive beyond Lochcaron village.

Within easy reach of Kishorn are

  • the Isle of Skye
  • the Inverewe Gardens which present over 50 acres of exotic woodland
  • the village of Gairloch with fine beaches, Golf course, craft shops and award-winning Museum.
View across the Loch with Skye in the distance

To the North of Kishorn on the shores and inlets of Loch Torridon lie the villages of Shieldaig, Torridon and Diabaig.

For more serious shopping the improved roads to Inverness and Dingwall make them a good place to spend the day (if it should rain!)
