About Us
Wester Ross in the North West Highlands of Scotland contains some of the most stunning ,scenic land and seascapes in the world. With a wonderful diversity of animals and plants in a natural environment of rugged mountains, beautiful and remote lochs and wild, rocky coastline it provides a focus for tourists, mountaineers, walkers, sailors; anybody who loves nature, fresh air and outdoor life. Rich in history and with a people and culture that have added so much to the world it an essential place to visit.
Here at Wester Ross Net we will provide a website that will be as diverse and interesting a place to visit as Wester Ross itself.
The people and communities of Wester Ross are as diverse as it's landscapes. In a rural area the communities are mostly small and widely spread, individual and fiercely independent yet friendly and welcoming to visitors. We believe that promoting interest in Wester Ross will be helped by providing open and effective communication, developing awareness and interest in those issues affecting local communities and the environment where people live and work.
Besides pages about where to go, what to see and how to get there we will be providing a free service for Wester Ross local communities and community groups so that they can provide information about themselves and what they are doing as well as their current news on issues and events. The Gaelic language is an important part of the cultural heritage of Wester Ross. We will be supporting the use of Gaelic by providing some of our pages in Gaelic.
Much of the attraction of Wester Ross lies in it's environment. Maintenance and regeneration of indigenous plant and animal species and much of the employment in Wester Ross is related to and dependant upon maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment and ecological system. Farming, fishing, forestry and agriculture are an integral part of the Wester Ross scenery. We believe that supporting and developing an awareness of environmental issues is important. We will therefore have pages providing information on current issues concerning the environment in Wester Ross as well as information on the various organisations and events having an impact on this.
This is a new site and we are but a small, privately run outfit although we have a lot of enthusiasm. The site is in the process of development and, as ever with web sites (why should we be different) many of our pages are still under construction. We hope that you will bear with us and find sufficient of interest on our site to revisit us often. It will be continually added to and updated and we want it to be fully interactive. If you have any suggestions on what to include or change, or want some information about Wester Ross that you can't find on our pages please let us know. You can email us at webman@wester-ross.com
